This guided tour lets you experience traditional Mallorca first-hand. It is a complete route through Montuïri's most emblematic and unique places, combining archaeological heritage with the village and its countryside.
What the tour includes
The tour starts at the Son Fornés Museum, where you will learn how Mallorca's prehistoric communities lived during the first millennium BC, especially in the best-known period of Balearic prehistory: the Talayotic period.
We then travel to the Son Fornés Archaeological Site, where you will go inside Talayot 1 and a Talayotic house, and walk among the most important finds from the post-Talayotic and Roman periods, such as Sanctuaries 1 and 2.
Back in the village we visit the start of Carrer Major, with an introduction to the origin of Montuïri's name, its history, its street layout and its main festivals and celebrations.
Continuing on foot along the same street, we stop at Can Rei, a 17th-century house that is still lived in, with an exceptional display of typical Mallorcan architecture and furniture. Here you will discover the traditional farming uses of Mallorcan homes —at Can Rei, grain and wine— and enjoy a tasting of local products in its cellar.
The route ends at a restored flour windmill, the Molí d'en Nofre, where you will see how it was used and how it works. You can go up the tower to see the gear mechanism and the six triangular sails, and there is also an exhibition of old farming tools.
